I'm Jason Richling, and welcome to my page. This 20-Meg slice of the web is dedicated to sharing my zest for life, love for the outdoors, and whatever else I see fit to ruminate on. I'm currently in the process of taking down a few of the 'Sierra' stories to make room for new material from Oregon.
First, a little about me. I
finished my Masters degree from California State University, Fullerton (Go
Titans!) at the close of 2002, and became engaged to my long-time girlfriend a
month later. We married in the early summer of '03, and moved to Oregon shortly
afterward in order for her finish her education at Oregon State University (Go
Beavers!). The transition from "The O.C." to Corvallis was substantial, but
two
years later it does indeed feel like home. Following a stint as a contractor with the USGS Forest and Rangeland Ecosystem Science
Center here in Corvallis, I currently work as an Associate Planner for the City
of Woodburn, Oregon. A biogeographer by education, I'm not completely content
with removing the "bio" portion of that field from my professional pursuit. For
now though, with Oregon's economic realities quite apparent, I'm so far pleased with my
foray into "urban geography." Atop
all of it, we look excitedly forward to starting our family and continuing our
pursuit of
good wine, dusty cowboy towns
and remote, high and beautiful places.
Summer 2005 has thus far proven to be an relentless cacophony of workplace drama, road-trips/family vacations, fantastic day-hikes, indulgent parties and efforts toward getting pregnant as we are now officially trying. All told it's been a heck of a good time. We are currently looking forward to having family over for a week a then heading to stay with the in-laws in North Carolina before OSU is back in session (Sept. 26th). Whew. Wish us luck!
The peaceful pace of life here in Corvallis was shattered with the broad daylight abduction of BYU student Brooke Wilberger on May 24th, 2004. Now with the charge of her abduction, assault and murder having been leveled on Joel Courtney of New Mexico, it is my sincere hope that this can finally be brought to a close. Please keep the Wilberger family in your thoughts and prayers.
